I closed my first rental listing last weekend.
After almost 3 months as the listing agent, we have a lease signed, sealed, and delivered...
First months rent. Check...
Security deposit. Check...
All disclosures signed and initialed. Check...
I was surprised by the process. The work involved listing a rental property seemed just as detailed as listing a home for sale...
Virtual tours. Buyer feedback. Price reductions. The process really was similar. Just slightly different paperwork...
The biggest difference was the size of my paycheck. They are generally much smaller with rental listings.
Several times over the last 3 months I found myself wondering:
"Why am I doing this? Even when this lease closes, I am still only going to be paid $xxx. Is it all worth it?"
Now that it has officially closed and the paychecks have been cut, I can answer my questions...
Yes. It was worth it.
I serviced a new client. A young guy. He could be a client for a lifetime...
And every check does count...
Every paycheck is a reminder that I do this for a living. That I am a professional.
When closings are scarce, it can be easy to forget we actually can be paid for selling real estate. It is nice to be reminded...
Every check counts.
Ken
