A beautiful March afternoon at the Naper Homestead, Naperville Illinois

It was another gorgeous day today in Naperville.  A beautiful day in the midst of several during this warm spell in March.  Temperatures were in the 80s, typical of June, but record warmth for mid-March.

I was driving to my office like I do most days, but today I decided to make a stop on my way at the Naper Homestead, site of Naperville founder Joe Naper's first home and trading post...

Located on a plot of land just west of Downtown Naperville, the Naper Homestead gives visitors a view of what life was like for early settlers...

When Joe Naper moved to the land that is now Naperville in 1831, times were very difficult.  Survival itself was a challenge.  Log cabins, typically 16' x 16' structures, were the homes of the day, fresh water had to be pumped by hand, and battles with Native Americans were too common...

Naper Homestead           -the Naper Homestead is located just west of downtown, on the corner of Mill Street and Jefferson...

Naper Homestead                                  -stones are laid to designate where the original buildings were built...

Naper Homestead                              -fresh water had to be pumped by hand for drinking and bathing...

Naper Homestead                -several large plaques filled with information about the site are set throughout the homestead...

Naper Homestead                           -on this beautiful day, the trees are just starting to turn green with leaves...

For more information regarding the Naper Homestead and the history of the beautiful city of Naperville, please visit the Naper Settlement website.
