Ken's Naperville Real Estate Blog : WIDGETS. HOW MANY IS TOO MANY?

WIDGETS. HOW MANY IS TOO MANY?

I recently gave my blog a bit of a hair cut...

Those who have read my posts before may notice that the right side of my blog looks different.

Gone are the layers of neon that used to litter my blog in the form of widgets...

I have minimized to what is most important to me, marketing myself...

With that in mind, I am down to just my Facebook Badge, my Twitter "Follow me" link, and the map of the world from Clustrmaps.com (I still think it's pretty cool).Ken Tracy's Facebook profile

I think my blog is now streamlined.  Like my shaved head,  aerodynamic...

But what do I know?

Most of the bloggers I read, especially the techie ones, are loaded with widgets.

For now, I am going with less is more...

What do you think?

Widgets?  How many is too many?

I like the less is more approach.  If you have too many unimportant things highlighted, how are people supposed to figure out what is important??  Sometimes they give up trying.

As a minimalist, I approve!

P.S.  I also like vanilla ice cream.  :)

Load times are key in keeping a reader's interest and in that respect, if the widgets you are using are not ADDING to the content then less certainly is more!

Good job, Ken.

Hi Ken, I have to agree, if the page starts loading slowly then that's too many widgets. Besides that, I think it's personal prefference.

Ken - I thought the rule was "who ever has the most widgets when they die....WINS".   I prefer the clean look too, but I've been trying to keep up with the techies!

Hi Ken,  So you got rid of the clutter!  The right side of your blog looks great.

Ken I often wonder about all the clutter others have on their blog site.  I keep mine very simple, good job.

Hi John, Shirley, Christine, Mike, Ron, Bruce, and Brian.  Thanks for stopping by.

Hmmm.  We are all on the same page.

We need a techie (hello Missy Caulk...) to hope on and give an argument for more widgets...

But for now, less is more.

Thanks everyone, and follow me or add me as a friend!:)

Hi Ken!
When I first started the Rain, I watched others posts and thought I was suppose to have all of those widgets...then I realized that let's see....it slows down my site....it looks messy....for the most part, it is unnecessary. So, I am, for once, glad that I didn't try to figure out how to put on all of those widgets!

Ken, I have to admit I am addicted to widgets. Now in saying that I have taken off many and still need to take off more. I know they slow down the pages and can look junky. Some are just advertising and there is one on my sidebar that has to go soon, when I have a minute.

It's not really an issue for me because I am still trying to figure out how to get the widgets to work right!  Old dog, new tricks, woof woof!

Probably beyond two or three widgets I think might slow the page load down too much Ken.
