Ken's Naperville Real Estate Blog : FIRST TIME SOCIAL MEDIA COACH

FIRST TIME SOCIAL MEDIA COACH

I am about to become a "social media coach"...

About two weeks ago a Realtor friend contacted me.  She was one of the first agents I met after becoming a Realtor.  We have kept in touch...

Anyway, she sent me a message on Facebook:

"I love how you are working Facebook. Are you working with anyone to coach you how to do it? or you are just a genius on your own..? ! :-) I need help.  I will pay you.  Please let me know your thoughts."

Wow.  Flattery will get you anywhere.  Pay?  Buy me a cup of coffee.  Let's meet at Starbucks in Naperville...

I am actually a little embarrassed that someone would offer to pay me for this. I am not a social media "coach".  I am just an agent who loves what he does...

Coaching my friend will be a great refresher course.  I can brush up on the fundamentals of what I do.

Some of her initial goals:

  • Facebook                                               Facebook
       Create professional page
       Fan generation
       Facebook Ads
  •  Linkedin
       Develop profile
Link it to website and other social media profiles
  • Craig's list
  • Active Rain/Blogging

Hmmm.  Getting her started on the basics of that list will be no problem.

But getting her set up will just be the beginning.

You have to work social media.  You have to be social...

I am excited to help her.  I think I can...

Ken

So how did you get started with all this social networking stuff?

HI Ken, I haven't tried the Facebook ads.  Do you think it is something to consider?  How much does it cost?  Let me know and I will offer you an I.O.U. for a cup of coffee.

Ken -

Good to hear.  I'm going to check out your Facebook page myself to see what I can learn.  Thanks.

Your friend has come to the right person.  You have already been "coaching" many here on AR with your very informative posts.

Hope you and your family are having a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi Ken,

I'm with you all the way.  In fact, I've said something very similar to my clients.  If you want to be successful on ActiveRain, you must be active!  :)

Congrats sir on being recognized for what you are doing.  You can't say that nobody is watching you now.

Hi Ken... How flattering and what a nice compliment to receive.  And deservedly so!

Wish I had a dollar for all the calls and teaching I have done. I would retire.

Since this is your first, make a short course in power point or pages whatever you use.

Send it over first.

Have her get all her profiles set up so then you can begin.

Good luck, you will be great....

Ken, I'm sure you will be great. It would be wonderful if you could post your tutorials here on Active Rain. I am starting to "coach" some of my associates too. The first thing I said was to set up their profiles on Active Rain and then I sent tutorials that others had done here. I hope you have fun with it!

Way to go, Ken.  Enjoy coaching her.  I love sharing what I can do well with my friends too.  It is a nice feeling, isn't it?

Hi Yuno, Jen, Missy, Steve, Don, Bruce, Candice, Marc, Karen, Joel, Jenny, Sandra, and Liz.  Thanks so much for stopping in.

Hey, more flattering words here.  I like this!:)

Missy, you are obviously ahead of me.  Too late to do much prep.  We are meeting at two today.

Jenny, I am using Facebook ads.  Don't expect immediate business.  It all takes time but is worth it...

Sandra, I got started in social media on Feb 15 2008.  I committed myself on that day to getting involved with Active Rain.  Haven't stopped learning since!

Thanks again everyone,

Ken

One of the best ways to reinforce what we know (and pick up a few more tricks along the way) is to teach others. I'm always willing to share at Starbucks, too!

Because we spend alot of time here reading each others ideas , we don't realize how uninvolved some agents really are with social media !

Hi Michael, John, and _____.  Thanks for stopping in.

I am back.  We had a nice day at Starbucks.  She now has a facebook business page, an  Active Rain profile, a new email and web address, and is finally branded.

I am excited for her, but she has lots of homework!

I hope to have the chance to get more people rolling...

Thanks again,

Ken

Hey, Ken:
I had a similar experience where I was leading a luncheon conversation with a local Broker and Mortgage Rep.  Me? Social Media Expert?  No... not Expert.  But lots of ideas and willing to discuss them!

By the way:  Where's the link to her FB page? So we can watch her progress?  ;)
