Ken's Naperville Real Estate Blog : LIGHT THAT CANDLE...

LIGHT THAT CANDLE...

I think I created an "expression" a few years back.  At least I think it should be an expression...

Here is the background:

My wife and I are spending a weekend at my in-laws.  The Thompsons.  Mount Pleasant Michigan...

We are having a nice time, but my mother in-law is fussing over details.  She came upon a candle on her bookshelf and hesitated...

Should she light it?  Or would it be better saved for a more important time...

"Light that candle," I chide from a nearby couch.  "What are you saving it for?"

We both paused and thought about what I had said.

After a few moments, my mother in-law lit the candle...

We have joked about it several times since.

She mentioned she uses it for a little life motivation from time to time.  I do too.

Light that candle...

What are you saving it for?

Ken...

I am a lot like your mother-in-law, as I would have to justify lihjting the candle!

Hi Richard.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

I know what you mean.  I am that way too...

It just feels better when I let it go.

Thanks again,

Ken

Light that candle! When it is all used up, buy another. You can't burn it when you are gone.

Yes, I think you should light that candle also!  We must try to enjoy each and every day; because we do not know about tomorrow. If the candle brings joy, I say "light it":)

I'm for lighting the candle...there will be more...besides why then have the candle if you're just going to keep it tucked away.

I think it's a great phrase to get motivated..."light the candle"

Hi Richard and Ginger.  Thanks so much.

Yes light that candle!  There is no reason to save it...

Thanks again,

Ken

Ken,

Good metaphor.

The phrase has been used before and popularized in "The Right Stuff".  Light the canclle refers to ignition of a rocket.

And the question you asked is still appropriate.

Ken, I agree lets not have any regrets in this life. Enjoy your family and light all the candles you can.

Hi Frank, Karen, and Rick.  Thanks so much for stopping in.

Yes, don't burn the candle at both ends.:)

But make sure you do...

Light that candle!

I like that, and I'm going to remember it. What on earth am I saving things for?

Hi Leslie.  Thanks.

I think it is a good little reminder...

Ken,

You triggered a good laugh over my former mother-in-law. She had lovely china and crystal for company.  Would feed her extended family on paper plates when we'd come for Sunday dinner. (We "kids" always did the cleanup.)

I jokingly said that I wasn't coming for dinner anymore unless I became company.  She lit the candle...

I always light several candles at the same time and the look and atmosphere is amazing!  I love to stock up when candles go on clearance after Christmas. I love to find nice candles at garage sales too! People are too afraid to burn them and then I get to buy their expensive candle for only .25 cents.

So Here's a glass to you Ken...Light the candle!

Thanks again,
