3 KEYS TO WRITING SUCCESSFUL REAL ESTATE MARKET REPORTS

I am a simple man.  I like to keep my marketing simple, too.

When I began writing my real estate market reports, I knew I would want to keep them pretty simple.

I started posting the market reports on Active Rain in January.  I knew there was a demand for real estate information online, and I was determined to be the one providing it...

It didn't take me long to see results.  I received my first call from the market reports 4 days after writing my first post.  I thought it was a fluke...

I was wrong.

The market reports continue to be the most productive marketing tool I have ever used.  I get about two calls a week from my reports.

Before writing the reports, my thoughts were, "What does the real estate consumer look for when he goes online?"

I look to provide that in my market reports:

  1. PICTURES

    Naperville home in the snow  Naperville home with apple blossoms
    -Naperville home in the winter...                      -springtime in Naperville

    Who doesn't like to look at nice pictures of beautiful homes? 
    With the variety of homes available in Naperville, there are plenty of opportunities to take some great pictures.
    Whenever possible, I try to take pictures reflective of the season...


  2. STATISTICS

    Keep them simple.  No complex charts needed.  For example, this is how I present my statistics:

    Activity for First Quarter 2010
    Homes Sold: 
    Average Sales Price: 
    Homes Currently for Sale: 
    Average Asking Price: 



  3. USE A BIG NET

    This has probably been the key to my success. 
    I write 33 different market reports for neighborhoods in and around Naperville. 
    You never know where your next lead will come from, so you are better off writing a whole lot of reports.

 

The real estate business is as challenging as ever.  However, there are still buyers and sellers looking for information.  They are looking online.

Make sure you are the one providing the information.

Thank you Ken, I will be doing just that.  I like your idea of keeping it simple.  It certainly makes starting easier -- you can always get fancier if you need to.

Hi Ken - Consistent, brief reports that go beyond stats will definitely get results. I'm working with a couple of buyers right now who found me through market reports and complimented me on my photos and attention to detail.

I know some make their reports VERY detailed.  It would be hard for me to produce the numbers required if I spent that much time on every one...

You're one sharp lead generator.  Those are phenominal statistics you are getting as hits from your market reports.  Keep up the good work and thanks for the inspiration.

Kristyn, take a look at one of my market reports.

Very basic.  Two nice pictures.  A little text (including school info).  Basic stats.

Gets easier to do after the first!
