Ken's Naperville Real Estate Blog : Facebook? A database with a pulse...

Facebook? A database with a pulse...

Realtors often ask me "Why are you so active on facebook?"

facebook

"Is it good for business?  Have you sold a lot of homes using facebook?"

Yes, facebook is great for business.  And no, I haven't sold a lot of homes through facebook.  Yet...

Facebook is fun.  I wouldn't use it if I didn't like it...

I enjoy staying in touch with people.  Lots of people.  I like being "in the loop".

There is also tremendous business potential with facebook...

When I became an agent 5 years ago, my first assignment was to put together my "database"...

The database was a list of everyone I knew.  The names.  Addresses.  Phone numbers.  The email addresses.  I was told to stay in contact with these people.

I grow my database every day...

Facebook is just a database.  It is a list of everyone you know.

Facebook will talk to you.  You can even talk back...

Facebook is alive. It has a pulse...

Facebook "friends" reach out to you.  They tell you what is going on?  What is important?  They will let you into their lives.

Just a little bit...

Facebook?  It is a database, but it has a pulse...

Thanks Ken for another perspective on FB. I have been looking at it with another way people can exploit the available information.

Ken, I have sold several houses from Facebook and more from MySpace before it basically went away.

I am on Facebook several times each day staying in touch with my family, friends and customers/clients. I have a personal page and a business page. I think Facebook is a tremendous asset to my business!

Ken...

This is interesting. I have never thought of FaceBook as a database before but I think that you have hit on something here!

Hi Ken... What a great way to look at Facebook.  I think I will use that description in an upcoiming training class!  :)

Ken, I spent 2 hours yesterday as it was raining here going through all my Facebook friends and making sure they were all in one of my lists. It was tedious but found many of my friends which I had set up in a list a long time ago were not in lists, so I never really talked to them unless I happened to catch them on the dashboard.

I also deleted some I had no clue who they were and had NEVER dialoged with. It felt good to get organized over there.

Ken you are right about being a long term avenue for getting business. It is all about keeping your face in front of people so they remember what you do!

Posted by Bill Gassett, Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty) about 7 years ago

Hi Bill, Missy, Steve, Richard, Mari, Damon, and Carol.  Thanks so much for reading.

It is a great way to passively stay in front of many people.  Out of sight, out of mind...

I don't ever want to be out of mind!

Thanks again, and thanks for the feature Richard!!!

I like what you have said here, all of you, I also appreciate the passive (very subtle) marketing opportunities.  It is a wonderful forum for subtle reminders of the joy of being a REALTOR and making a difference in our clients and communities!

I love Facebook. I have "spoken" to so many people I went to school. with. They would not not I was a Realtor if not for Facebook. I am reminded to do the little things like wishing a friend Happy Birthday.

Hi Ken-Great post about Facebook and how it is important for realtors to be in the public eye.

Hi Joe, Allen, and Doreen.  Thanks!

I taught a class last week, and I don't think most people understand...

Very subtle.

Allen, your friends from high school might never have heard from you again.  Now you are "talking" via facebook.  Very cool.

Thanks again,

Ken

Ken,

Great post! I have not thought of Facebook as a data base, but it is a data base of sorts. But one that is fun to use and easy to keep in touch.

Ken - Great points here - I like thinking of Facebook as a database, too.  I only wish they didn't limit the number of friends you can have there.

I think Facebook is importand and I use it to "stay in touch" but I'm wondering about a separate business page - Do you have two pages on facebook or do you do everything from your personal page like alerting people of new listings...

Posted by Marcia Kramarz, CDPE,LMC,CBR (Re/Max Executive Realty) about 7 years ago

For sure - Facebook is fun and a great way to stay in touch with a lot of people. I started putting a favorite flower of the day post up, and got a few comments each day. But far more people told me when they saw me in person how much they enjoyed the posts. You never know how many are 'listening'.

Hi Joetta, Marcia, and Jay.  Thanks for reading.

I have two pages.  A business and personal.  I am very active with both!

Joetta, great idea!

A database with a pulse....I LOVE it! :)  I use Facebook a LOT....it helps me keep in touch with long-lost (and newly found) friends and family. I LOVE the interactive nature of Facebook! Like you, I wouldn't use it if I didn't like it.  And I have already gotten some business off of Facebook...which is just icing on the cake! :)

Hi Ken!  Excellent post and I love the FB pulse!  What has been surprising to me is the number of folks who didn't really care if I called them or not (my sphere) before FB are now actively chatting with me there now.  Most of them are Gen-Y'ers but, I LOVE it!  It's definitely quicker than the phone call, for sure!

Facebook helps me stay "connected" to so many people so easily. A very worthwhile tool in the arsenal.

Went to a banquet several weeks ago, and during the course of dinner conversation learned that everyone at my table was on FB...by the next day we had all friended one another.

Subsequently all have joined my real estate fan page and I have had multiple "conversations" with several of them.

What a great and easy way to get in touch and stay in touch - and build on an enjoyable evening.  Here's hoping there's a client in there somewhere!

Hi Michael.  Love the story!

It is unbelievable to me that some don't get it...

Home sales take time.  You build the relationship with facebook...

Thanks for stopping by,

Ken
