Ken's Naperville Real Estate Blog : The Burden of Talent

The Burden of Talent

I was talking with a friend today.  We were discussing real estate, sales, and life in general...

And the subject came up, Why wasn't I selling more homes?

Now without a doubt, this has been a challenging year for me on various levels...

And it sure hasn't been my best year selling homes either.  My listing inventory is down, my buyers don't seem quite ready to make a move, and when they do the home is usually gone...

But honestly, I try not to dwell on the question of Why I am not selling more homes?

I am a happy guy.  I try to wake up each day and do my best.  Make people happy.  Make eye contact.  Firm handshakes.  Be generous with my words, and kind to those I meet.  I try and make a difference...

"But you have so much talent," my friend finished...

It can be a burden.

Sometimes it's just a lot of bad things that are out of your control that happen all at once. I have NEVER worked harder than this year but like you I am struggling. I have plenty of business, but getting to the closing table has been a real challenge.

Hi Richard. Thanks! I think so too! I want to focus on positives, but some prefer to look at the "failures"... I don't believe in failures... Thanks again! Ken

Ken,  Keep your chin up as you have been doing. It is easier to turn things around with positive attitude.

But it is okay to allow yourself 24 hours of 'woe is me' occasionally as long as it is not every other day.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Sounds like you are very busy! I think that selling homes is like any performance-related job. Sometimes you are in a rhythm, and sometimes things just do not fall quite like you want them to. No matter what, you just have to keep doing what you know is right, and things will turn around.
