Ken's Naperville Real Estate Blog : "HE WAS PROBABLY AT THE GYM..." BLOGGING WORKS.

"HE WAS PROBABLY AT THE GYM..." BLOGGING WORKS.

I had a listing appointment on Sunday morning.  I met with a nice young couple who lived in one of my farm areas, Carrolwood, a townhome community in Naperville.

They are hoping to buy a bigger home...

The appointment went great.  As we spoke, the sellers told me how they had called other agents, but they never received return calls...

I wasn't surprised.  I hear this a lot.  I find that so strange...

The wife was impressed that I returned her call within an "hour or so."

I was disappointed.  I expect more of myself...

I try to answer most of my calls.  When I don't, I get back ASAP...

"He was probably at the gym," the husband said.

Huh?

I had never met this man before.  How did he know?  I go to the gym every day at 10 AM...

I was at the gym when she called!

"I have been reading your blog.  I like the one about the door knob!", the husband responded.

"My favorite is the one about the "Naperville Mom"," added the wife...

Wow.  I have an audience...

Blogging works.

It's great to that your clients already know you, so surprises are not something that you should experience.

That must make you feel good that there are people out there who read and enjoy your blog, besides the rest of us realtors, of course. Congrats on the new listing.

Ken-It really makes the whole process a lot easier, they feel they already know you. Great story.

I hear that a lot too, but I don't care if other Realtor's never call back, I'll take the business.

Yay Ken.  You are a celebrity in your SOI and maybe outside it as well.  I am always surprised by agents who don't return calls.

Ken...

Wow, that really makes you think, doesn't it? We might might to be careful about some of the things we say in our posts!

Ken- That is great that you have a following and it is turning into business. We do need to remember that people actually read what we write. Be careful what you put out there....=)

Hi Steve, Scott, Richard, Shirley, Robert, JL, Patty, and Joseph.

Thanks so much for reading.

It did make everything so easy.

They didn't find me on AR, but they verified their confidence in me.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing great.

Ken - I bet that felt pretty darn good - to have someone tick off a few of your blog posts like that!  I know what you mean about calling back asap - to me it seems that if we are in the business of helping people, and every lead could become a client/friend/source of referral business... I find it crazy not to be on the ball when it comes to dealing with phone calls!  Of course we all have times we can't answer the phone - but to ignore the message? Not call back?  I don't understand that!

And I hear it a fair amount.

It did feel good.

I hope all is well,

Good for you, Ken!  Not just for the client directly from your blog, but for hitting the gym!

Blogging, like exercise, takes time, but pays off.

I need to do more of both, LOL.

That's interesting and entertaining, Ken, how your seller "knew" you were at the gym. Makes a great "In the life of a Realtor" story. You DO have followers!

The whole social networking thing is a bit scary.  It's like someone is watching you!  The other day I posted a picture of the kids and I after we built an awesome Snow Hula Girl on our deck (she was anatomically correct too) and not a minute later a client/friend calls and says...'You look like you are having fun!'  It took me a second to realize what she was talking about and then I had the A-HA moment of...wow...careful what you post cause they really are watching.

Hi Ken,

This is great! I just received an e-mail earlier today from a colleague who was asking me about AR. She was told that it is just for realtors. I described to her that, even though consumers do not comment often, they are out there reading what we post. This is proof. I will tell her to read your post!

Posted by Dawn Isenhower (Sibcy Cline Realtors) over 9 years ago

Hi Dawn, Bruce and Sandy, Pat, and Rick.  Thanks for reading.

Rick, it does take time.  Just like exercise!

Anyway, it is cool people are reading.

I would like to drive my traffic up this year.

Thanks everyone,

Ken

Hi Ken - What a wonderful story.  This certainly dispels the paradigm that Realtors® are expected to work 24/7.  Our clients do realize we have a life beyond real estate.  How wonderful that this couple felt they already knew you through your blog.
